Beginning his artistic journey during the Pandemic, S. Ascher is primarily self-taught as a painter. The use of bold colors and stair motifs are meant to be referential to his exploration of his identity as a Black queer man to create an abstract form he calls Black Expressionism. When he was young, he believed he would never be accepted for who he was and would not survive this world. Working through the process in creating Ascension he has found that he is exactly what is needed in this world.
