Adult Swim Lessons at the JCC Indianapolis
The JCC Indianapolis hosts Indy Aquatics Masters‘ adult learn to swim program to provide swimming lessons for adults. Classes take place in the J’s Backer Therapy Pool, a warm 89°F and able to be adjusted to various depths. This class for swimmers with little to no experience will cover the basics of swimming strokes and water safety including overcoming fear of the water, floating, gliding, stroke introduction, and deeper-water skills. All swim classes are for ages 18 or older and open to non-members.
Benefits of Swimming Lessons for Adults
- According to the Centers for Disease Control, 37% of American adults cannot swim the length of a 25-yard pool. Even more alarming is that of the 10 drownings that occur each day in this country, eight of those victims are adults or young adults. By taking this adult learn to swim class, you will be comfortable and safe in and around water.
- This class is of most benefit to those with little or no experience with swimming, typically men and women ages 25-55.

Aquatics Are Central at the JCC
Learning to swim and aquatics are deeply rooted in Jewish values and culture. The JCC serves Jewish and non-Jewish audiences alike, as learning to swim is a universal value. Our aquatics program is integral to our community center, and we have built and maintained indoor, outdoor, competition-sized, and therapeutic pools. Our love of aquatics starts early with parent/child classes, continues with lessons for adults, and we offer arthritis and therapy classes for those well into their 90s.
