Event Details
Presented in partnership with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic (CIP), Defiant Requiem tells the story of Rafael Schachter, a Czech conductor who taught 150 fellow Theresienstadt (Terezin) prisoners Verdi’s Requiem by rote in a cellar with one piece of sheet music. The film includes testimony provided by surviving members of Schachter’s choir, soaring concert footage, cinematic dramatizations, and evocative animation.
This powerful, moving film screening will be followed with a Zoom discussion featuring Murry Sidlin, President and Artistic Director of the Defiant Requiem Foundation, and Isaac Selya, Music Director of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic.
The program is free, pay-what-you-can donations are appreciated!
