Event Details

The Concert-Goers Social Club is a group for older adults who share an appreciation for music across various genres and seek to enhance their musical understanding through their experiences as audience members. This program aims to create a sense of community through exploring musical history, context, and performance and being tourists in our own city of Indianapolis. It is for those interested in deepening their understanding of classical, jazz, and world music and building lasting connections with fellow music enthusiasts in their community.

Meetings will consist of pre-concert classes held in-person at the JCC a week before each concert, and then the concert itself. Dues will cover classroom time and ticket fees for all performances, but transportation will not be provided. All meetings at the JCC will include snacks and coffee.

This program is created through Lifelong Arts and the Indiana Arts Commission and is specifically geared towards those who are 55 years of age and older.

This program will be led by Indianapolis pianist, Dr. Clare Longendyke. Clare is an internationally-recognized concert pianist whose artistry is defined by her unyielding pursuit of the quintessential sound and character in every piece, combined with an honest and sincere interpretation of the composer’s intentions from her individual perspective. She has performed with orchestras around the United States and as a soloist in concert halls around the world. She radiates a contagious commitment to the music of our time, and her programming celebrates works by favorite composers of the past while creating space for those that are paving the way towards classical music’s more inclusive future. Clare has lived and studied on both American coasts and abroad, earning degrees at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts, Paris’s École normale de musique, and both her Master’s and Doctor of Music from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. An ardent Francophile and fluent French speaker, she received the Fulbright-Harriet Hale Woolley Award in the Arts to study music in Paris in 2009.

Pre-concert classes will be held at the JCC the week before the concert.
