Horizons is a transformative six-week summer program that offers high quality learning for children outside of the school year. The mission of Horizons is to close the summer learning gap for Indianapolis kids from low income families through:
Horizons knows that children learn best when learning is fun, so they foster a joyful program where students gain valuable math and reading skills through hands-on activities and field trips.
Most under-served children slide back two to three months in reading and math over the summer, but Horizons students gain an average of two to three months reading and math skills during the six-week summer program. In addition to preventing summer learning loss, Horizons has two other goals; increasing water safety by teaching our children a life-saving skill through swim lessons at the JCC three times a week, and obesity prevention by teaching and modeling healthy habits.
