JCC Reopening

(Updated 04/06/2021)

The health and safety of our members, guests and staff is our top priority.

The JCC complies or exceeds all local and state mandates, CDC guidelines, our campus guidelines and safe play guidelines by industry organizations, e.g., USTA.

Our safety procedures have been proven effective in minimizing any adverse health impacts to our staff and members. The following is a comprehensive list of policies in place by area in our facility.

Campus-Wide Waiver

All visitors to the Max & Mae Simon Jewish Community Campus, which includes the JCC, are required to complete an electronic campus-wide liability waiver to be allowed access to the facility.

  • All adults ages 18+ should sign their own waiver.
  • For two-parent/guardian households, BOTH parents/guardians must separately fill out the “Parent/Guardian and Minors” waiver, not just one parent/guardian. Multiple children may be added to the form at once, but each parent/guardian must separately sign on their child(ren)’s behalf (i.e., two waivers for each child).

Overall Protocols

  • Guest passes may be sold. Guest passes can only be used when the guest is accompanied by a current JCC member aged 18 and up. Guest passes are $12 for ages 12+; $8 for ages 2-11; kids under 2 are free.
  • The following services are available:
    • Vending machines
    • Water bottle fill station in the Mordoh Fitness Center. Members are encouraged to bring their own water bottles.
    • Gym rentals, birthday pool parties and rentals of the full Eskenazi Water Park

Health and Safety Protocols

  • Masks. We require that all visitors to our facility (ages 3+) continue to wear masks while state and local mask mandates or advisories are in effect AND until at least 90% of our staff have been vaccinated.
  • Social Distancing. We ask that members maintain at least 6 feet distance at all times with others not in their household. Floor decals marking 6′ lengths have been placed to reinforce social distancing. If greater distances are required, it will be noted in the area’s description.
  • COVID Diagnosis
    • Those who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 AND ARE SYMPTOMATIC must meet all the following before returning to campus:
      • At least 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medication AND
      • Improvement in COVID symptoms AND
      • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared
      • Please note that these three criteria apply to everyone, whether fully vaccinated or not
    • Those who have tested positive for COVID but HAVE NO SYMPTOMS, may return to campus after 10 days have passed since the positive test result.
    • COVID symptoms include fever or chills, fatigue, sore throat, cough, muscle or body aches, congestion or runny nose, shortness of breath, headache, nausea or vomiting, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, and/or diarrhea.
  • COVID Exposure
    • Following close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes) of someone who has a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis:
      • Those who have NOT been fully vaccinated should wait for 14 days after exposure based on the time it takes to develop the illness. If symptoms develop, see above.
      • Those who ARE fully vaccinated and have been in close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes) of someone who has a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis are free to visit unless they have symptoms (see above) or if they live in a group setting, e.g., correctional facility or group home (would need to wait to visit the J for 14 days).

Please note that hands-free investments have been made throughout the facility including automatic flushing toilets, electric hand dryers and occupancy sensors for lights and small meeting rooms (no need to touch a light switch!).

Masks

  • Masks are required for all members ages 3 and up.
    • Parents of youth in child care programs have been notified directly of any changes.
  • Visitors and staff are required to wear masks when entering and exiting the building, fitness center, gyms, locker/changing rooms and indoor pools. Masks are also required inside the locker/changing rooms (including travelling to/from the showers) and for spectators at youth sports programs (indoors at all times, outdoors if 6′ social distancing cannot be maintained).
  • Face masks are optional during fitness activities and outdoors when 6′ social distancing can be maintained (e.g., for youth participating in sports and tennis programs).
  • Masks are NOT allowed IN the swimming pool (but should be worn to/from the pool and on the pool deck).
  • JCC staff are required to wear masks, except when in their offices.
  • If someone refuses to wear a mask due to an exemption, we require documentation, e.g., a doctor’s note issued within at least two weeks of their visit stating they cannot wear a mask.

Cleaning/Sanitation Protocols

The JCC uses a comprehensive approach to cleaning and sanitation protocols to allow for proper disinfection.

Hand sanitizing stations are available throughout the facility to accommodate for when soap and water are not available for complete hand washing.

Visitors are required to wipe down equipment in the Mordoh Fitness Center after each use.

Air handling: Each area has its own, separate HVAC system with the size of the system based on the area to be covered. Fans run continuously for the best ventilation and filters are changed regularly. For example, the Mordoh Fitness Center has 7 rooftop HVAC units, 5 tons each. The Group Ex Studio has its own 7.5-ton HVAC system. In December 2020, the filters were upgraded from MERV 7 (standard) to high-efficiency MERV 13, which can trap very small particles including the virus that causes COVID-19, adding another layer of protection against the disease when used along with other best practices
