Muscle Tuf Classes at the JCC Indianapolis
FREE FOR MEMBERS
Muscle Tuf at JCC Indianapolis are a group exercise class similar to a body pump class, focusing on low weight loads and high repetition movements timed to choreography of popular music. You’ll burn fat, gain strength, and quickly produce lean body muscle conditioning. The class name is the brainchild of long-time member and group exercise regular, Bruce Walker. He also coined the term “J-borhood” to describe how membership at the J is like belonging to a community or neighborhood.
Benefits of Muscle Tuf
- Increases Muscle Mass: Muscle is built with a combination of a healthy diet and repetitive motion under strain. Muscle Tuf utilizes weights with fun motions to add just the right amount of strain and target specific muscle groups.
- Burns Fat: When done in a caloric deficit, all workouts burn fat. Your body converts this fat into energy used to fuel your body from start to finish. Muscle Tuf keeps you moving, grooving, and burning for an hour at a time, making it easy to burn plenty of fat and get your heart rate up.
- Tones and Shapes: Weight-bearing classes are designed to target specific muscles. These targeted workouts, when done with the right number of reps and proper resistance, help tone the muscles.
- Motivates Exercise: One of the best things about the Muscle Tuf class is that it removes the monotony of working out. This isn’t just because the workout is different every time, but because you’re surrounded by other people who encourage you to push your limits. Group workouts are proven to be more motivating and more likely to be completed than individual workouts.

Fitness Is a Core Jewish Value
At the JCC, fitness isn’t just something we do; it’s who we are. Although exercise is not mentioned in the Torah, taking care of one’s health is. In fact, while other belief systems advocate for the healing power of prayer, Judaism encourages people to look after their health and seek counsel from medical experts. In Judaism, good health is not a goal in itself; rather, it is a means to an end – to serve the Creator.
