American Red Cross Training

American Red Cross Lifeguard Courses

Ages 15+. Through this course, you’ll learn to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatics emergencies and learn how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illness until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.

At the start of the first day, participants must pass a pre-course session that includes:
300 yard swim, 20 yard swim to retrieve a 10 lb brick and return with it to the wall and exit the pool within 100 seconds and 2 minutes treading water without the use of hands.

On successful completion of the Lifeguard course, participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED. Attendance to all scheduled dates and times is required.

Current ARC Certified Only. Abbreviated course renewing your current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate. Those who do not have a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding or Lifeguard/First Aid/ CPR/AED certificate may participate in the full course only.

Participants must pass a pre-course session that includes:

Fall and/or Winter Break Course TBD

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

Ages 17+. If you’re a proficient swimmer, you can become an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Learn to teach children and adults to swim, and give water safety presentations to kids and their parents. It’s a fun and meaningful job that’s in high demand. Plus, Red Cross certification is recognized nationwide so you can work anywhere in the United States. Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) is included in this course.
Become certified to teach the following: Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Longfellow’s WHALE Tales, Water safety courses and presentations. There is a required online component that varies in length for each participant. This can be broken into segments done partially at a time, but to complete all 9 sections it may take up to or greater than 6hrs combined. REGISTRATION DEADLINE is one week prior to first class session to allow time for online component completion prior to first in-class session!

Participants must pass a pre-course session that includes:
Swim 25 yards of : front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke.
Swim 15 yards of butterfly
Float on back for 1 minute
Tread water for 1 minute
ONLINE component must be completed 72 hours before first class session.
